AYUNGON, Negros Oriental – Upon the request of the Local Government Unit of Ayungon, the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO), led by Executive Director Woodrow C. Maquiling, Jr., conducted an ocular inspection and initial assessment of the Banban Binhi Eco Park in Barangay Banban and the Virgin Forest in Barangay Mabato on July 21, 2026.

Joining the assessment were representatives from the LGU-Ayungon led by Mayor Dennis Amancio, CENRO-Ayungon, the Negros Oriental Tourist Police, and the Dumaguete Lions Club to evaluate the sites’ potential for sustainable ecotourism development.

The assessment focused on accessibility, environmental integrity, tourism potential, and possible low-impact developments that will enhance visitor experience while preserving the area’s natural resources.

Located about 35 minutes from the municipal hall, Banban Binhi Eco Park features a scenic lake surrounded by a natural forest donated by the Salimbagat Family. Proposed attractions include kayaking, an elevated canopy walkway, recreational fishing, and an animal feeding area, with tree-planting activities planned to strengthen forest conservation.

The team also visited the Virgin Forest in Barangay Mabato, home to towering native trees and diverse bird species.

Mayor Amancio emphasized the need to deputize Bantay Lasang volunteers through the DENR to strengthen forest monitorin, intensify tree-planting efforts, and curb illegal kaingin.

The initial assessment marks an important step toward developing Ayungon’s forests into sustainable ecotourism destinations, reflecting the Provincial Government’s commitment to promoting responsible tourism while protecting Negros Oriental’s natural heritage.
