Singapore — The Philippine Embassy in Singapore graced the opening of the exhibit of multi-award winning Filipino artist Manuel Ocampo at STPI Gallery in Singapore on May 17, 2019.

“Manuel Ocampo: Ideological Mash-Up/Remix”, which runs from May 18 to June 22, 2019, showcases the artist’s approach in “employing symbols and iconographies of faith, brutality and comic absurdity”. The Embassy was represented by First Secretary and Consul Gonaranao B. Musor and Cultural Officer Sheila B. Bengtlars.

In celebration of the Philippine’s National Heritage Month, a guided tour of the exhibition, art workshops and a performance by the Choreo Ethnic Tribal Group was organized for the public on May 25-26, 2019.

The Embassy will be coordinating with several non-governmental organizations in Singapore to encourage more Filipino household service workers to participate in these weekend activities in line with Ocampo’s exhibition.

Established in 2002, STPI is a workshop and contemporary art gallery that has previously hosted a number of well-known Filipino artists such as the late Pacita Abad, BenCab, Geraldine Javier and the late Anita Magsaysay-Ho.
