Moscow – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow announced on 02 March 2020 that it will be holding events to commemorate this year’s National Women’s Month in the three major cities in Russia, namely Moscow, Yakutsk, and St. Petersburg.
“For the first time, we have expanded our scope of activities to three major Russian cities in celebration of the National Women’s Month. Our activities include engaging not only the Filipino Community, but also the international and expat community and our Russian friends,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.
In Moscow, the Embassy plans three events. There will be a fundraising art workshop to benefit Russian orphans in partnership with the Damas Latinas Group 05 March 2020. This is followed by a Kapihan sa Pasuguan which will tackle legal issues common to female overseas workers for the Filipino community on 15 March 2020.
In coordination with Damas Latinas Group, the Embassy will host another art workshop to benefit SafeHouse Foundation, a non-profit organization in Moscow dedicated to preventing human trafficking by training and raising awareness, providing victims with direct assistance, and giving human trafficking survivors a chance to be self-sustainable on 25 March 2020. SafeHouse Foundation has been a great partner of the Embassy in many of its assistance-to-nationals cases, particularly in the area of counselling.
An Embassy Consular and Voters Registration team will be in Yakutsk and will give a seminar on laws on violence against women and children in the context of problems faced by female overseas workers on 15 March 2020.
The Embassy will partner with the Department of Labor and Employment – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (DOLE-OWWA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in St. Petersburg and will give talks on Legal Issues Common to Female Overseas Workers, OWWA Membership and Benefits, and Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) on 28 and 29 March 2020. The representatives of DOLE and OWWA, with the support of the Philippine Embassy, will process OWWA applications and renewals, as well as verify contracts and issue Overseas Employment Certificates.
DOLE and OWWA will be represented by Labor Attaché Atty. Delmer Cruz and Welfare Officer Sylvia Gabriel of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Berlin. DTI will be represented by Trade Counsellor Kristine Umali of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) based in Moscow.
