Xiamen, China — As part of its cultural diplomacy programs, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen opened the historic Philippine Rare Stamps Exhibition at the Xiamen City Museum in Xiamen City on April 9, 2019.

The rare Philippine stamps collection belongs to Mr. Zhou Peilin, Proprietor/Manager of Huazhilin (Xiamen) Culture Communication Co., Ltd. and a returned Overseas Chinese (Huaqiao) who lived in the Philippines for more than 20 years.

The exhibition achieves several milestones as the first foreign stamp exhibit held at the Xiamen City Museum, the first Philippine rare stamp exhibit in Fujian if not in the whole of China, as well as served as a valuable contribution to the commemoration of China’s and Xiamen’s opening-up to the world.

Mr. Zhou’s collection counts up to 10,000 or more Philippine stamps – covering different historical epochs from the Spanish to contemporary times – featuring Philippine history, arts, culture, economy, tourism, heroes/personalities and local/international events which were showcased in rare and contemporary first edition stamps.

Among the VIP guests who attended the opening were Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) President Arsenio Lizaso, and Deputy Director General Yao Jianhong of the Xiamen Municipal People’s Government Foreign Affairs Office (Xiamen FAO).  Other guests include more than 200 members of the Filipino and Chinese business sector, media, academe and other friends and contacts.

Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores and Mr. Lizaso delivered remarks during the program. Both have expressed appreciation for Mr. Zhuo for the opportunity to exhibit his prized collection to the public.

The Consulate General will continue to promote Philippine arts and culture in Fujian and elsewhere through exhibitions which will contribute towards the nurturing and strengthening of ties between the Philippines and China.

Running from April 9 to May 8, 2019, the exhibit is a joint collaboration of the Consulate General, Xiamen City Museum and Huazhilin (Xiamen) Culture Communication Co., Ltd with the support of the Xiamen FAO.
