In celebration of the Filipino Heritage Month in Canada, the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver and the Dimasalang III International Artists Group hosted an Art Exhibit entitled “A Tribute to Filipino Artist Sym Mendoza” on 27 May 2022 at the Consulate lobby.

Consul General Maria Andrelita Austria, in her remarks, conveyed her appreciation to the family of the late SYM Mendoza for generously sharing some of his great works with the Consulate through this exhibit.  She also commended the Dimasalang III International Artists Group headed by Mr. Leo Cunanan, Jr. for partnering with the Consulate in this special tribute.

Founding leader of the Dimasalang Artists, Mr. Sofronio Ylanan Mendoza, better known by his initials S.Y.M., was highly regarded by his colleagues and respected in the Filipino-Canadian community.  SYM’s masterful prolific collection of paintings reflects his devotion and passion for the arts.  SYM has been recognized in the art world in British Columbia and beyond with numerous awards and his work sold in art galleries both locally and in the Philippines.

Dimasalang III International Artist Group is a registered non-profit society based in British Columbia. Its vision is to raise awareness of contemporary arts and culture; further develop artistic talents, and encourage a positive impact and contribution to the community.

The art collective exhibition features the works of the following Dimasalang artists: SYM, Edgardo Lantin, Rod Pedralba, Noel Trinidad, Jess Hipolito, Leo Cunanan, Jr., Bert Morelos, Arlene George, Antonio Dizon, Rolando Tuliao, Reynato Pablo, Francis Heradura, Carol Historillo, Julliana Loh, Jacqueline Loh, Mayo Landicho, Charlie Frenal, Agnes Kindrachuk, Mary Ann Manuel and Stuart Dee.

The Art Exhibit is open to the public and will run through 30 June 2022.
