DFA Cagayan de Oro Holds “The First Filipino Women” Photo Exhibit

Cagayan de Oro – In line with the celebration of the 2019 National Women’s Month and in recognition of women’s significant contributions to society, the Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office (DFA CO) in Cagayan de Oro City held its’ first-ever mini-photo exhibit entitled “First Filipino Women” at the CO in Cagayan de Oro City.

The month-long exhibit aimed at honoring Filipino women who were “first” in their respective fields. It featured some of the bravest women in the Philippine history such as Gabriela Silang, Melchora Aquino, and Theresa Magbanua; the first Filipina Pediatrician Dr. Fe Del Mundo, whose research led to the invention of the medical incubator; the first woman President Corazon C. Aquino and first woman General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Ramona Palabrica-Go. among others.

The exhibit also featured Bukidnon’s pride, top mountaineer Carina Dayondon, as the first Filipina to summit the seven highest mountains in seven continents.

DFA CO also supported the Philippine Commission on Women’s call for “purple Fridays” by wearing purple-colored clothes on all Fridays of March. It also offered simple treats such as candies, chocolates, biscuits, and crackers to women clients including children on “purple Fridays”.
