Santiago, Chile — In celebration of the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the ASEAN Santiago Committee (ASC) composed of Heads of Missions of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam launched the “ASEAN Corner” at the Library of Humanities of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, one of the oldest and reputable universities in Chile and in Latin America.
The objective of the “ASEAN Corner” is to incrementally build a collection of books and reference materials on Southeast Asia to raise awareness of the region in Chile among the students of the university.
The five ASEAN member-countries accredited in Chile donated 15 books and reference materials each on culture, politics and economy.
The launch was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Papal Nuncio, Chambers of Commerce, officials from the University and members of the Faculty, students, and friends of the ACS.
All invited guests and students also sampled the rich variety of Asian delicacies served.
