66 total women OFWs, fly home through the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait’s Repatriation Program

Kuwait — The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait continues to repatriate undocumented and distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Kuwait, sending home an all-female group of 66 OFWs on 23 October 2019.

The latest group of OFW-repatriates from Kuwait is the eighth batch to be sent home under the Embassy Assisted Repatriation Program (EARP) for 2019. To date, 425 OFWs have been repatriated under the EARP this year.

In a statement, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. and Consul General Mohd. Noordin Pensosina N. Lomondot said that the EARP will continue even as the peak season for international air travel approaches “to ensure that more undocumented and distressed OFWs from Kuwait will spend Christmas with their loved ones in the Philippines.”

Chargé d’Affaires Lomondot thanked the Kuwaiti government for its continued support to the Embassy’s repatriation efforts. The EARP is a joint project of the Embassy and the Illegal Residency Monitoring and Immigration Departments of the Kuwait Ministry of Interior.

In the spirit of unity among the Embassy’s attached agencies under the One-Country Team Approach, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Kuwait—headed by Labor Attaché Nasser S. Mustafa, and composed of Assistant Labor Attaché Cathrine A. Duladul, and Welfare Officers Genevieve A. Ardiente, Eduardo Bellido and Llewelyn D. Perez—also sent off the 66 OFW-repatriates at Kuwait International Airport.

Apart from the one-way ticket from Kuwait to Manila, 37 out of the 66 OFWs were also given domestic tickets from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to their provinces in the Philippines. The Embassy also took care of the food provision for the 35 repatriates who temporarily stayed at the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC) Shelter.

The latest batch of the EARP brings to 425 the total number of undocumented and distressed OFWs who have been repatriated by the Embassy since the start of 2019.

The Embassy continues to invite all Filipinos in Kuwait with expired visas and absconding cases to come home to the Philippines and apply for the EARP.
