Philippine Artist Featured in Art Exhibit at the Tokyo University of the Arts

Artworks made by a Philippine artist, Yllang Montenegro, were featured during the Art Exhibit at the Tokyo University of the Arts from 20 March to 07 April 2021.

Ms. Yllang Montenegro is a former migrant worker in Japan. She is a feminist, activist, and self-taught artist. Her art pieces reflect her dreams and fears, as well as those of the migrant workers, during the current pandemic in the Philippines and around the world. She also aimed to feature a striking imagery of women’s resistance and vulnerability.

The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo officials visited the Exhibit on 06 April 2021 and met the curator of Ms. Montenegro’s artworks, Ms. Ness Roque, a MEXT scholar, and Masters Student at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Other countries that participated in the Exhibit include Japan, Russia, Taiwan and India.
