DepEd Details the Quincentennial Participation for Schools

Department of Education Undersecretaries Annalyn Sevilla and Tonisito Umali jointly issued DepEd Memorandum OUF-2021-0204 on 15 March 2021 cascading to all the Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, Bureau and Service Directors, Regional Directors, Schools Division Superintendents, Assistant Schools Division Superintendents, School Heads, and teachers the participation in the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (2021 QCP). DepEd central office (CO), regional offices (ROs), school division offices (SDOs), and schools are enjoined to conduct simultaneous flag-raising ceremonies in the offices and schools as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is expected to lead such at the Liberty Shrine, Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City on 27 April 2021 at 8:00 a.m., which is the D-Day of the 2021 QCP (500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan). Flowers or wreaths may also be offered at the pedestals of monuments of national heroes put up within the school premises if any.

Only the skeletal workforce of DepEd Offices and schools shall participate in the simultaneous flag-raising ceremonies in strict observance of IATF guidelines in public gatherings to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. Those who are working from home are encouraged to participate in the simultaneous flag-raising ceremony by watching the live coverage of the flag ceremony led by the DILG and PCOO.

The memorandum also stipulates that the Philippine Flag shall be hung and displayed in all DepEd offices and schools for the period April 20 -27, 2021.

Supervisors and teachers, especially in Araling Panlipunan and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, are encouraged to: (a) continue to conduct online activities from 2021 to 2022 that retell the heroism, gallantry, and nobleness of various historical figures in history, especially the local heroes and eminent people the locality has produced; (b) honor the modern-day exceptional examples of greatness and compassion; (c) celebrate the overseas Filipino workers; and (d) highlight our achievement as a people in science, arts and culture, and in various fields. 9.

Teachers are also enjoined to access the Quincentennial Online Lecture Portal of the National Quincentennial Committee at portal.nqc.gov.ph. Registration is free. Certificates are automatically generated on the said website upon completion of the lecture session.

This 2021, we will commemorate the Philippine part in the achievement of science and humankind in circumnavigating the planet for the first time. Central in this commemoration is the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan on 27 April 2021. These and more are collectively known as the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines by virtue of Executive Order No. 103 (2020).
