Xiamen, China — With the aim to promote world-class Filipino artists as well as enhance cultural cooperation and exchanges and deepening of Philippine-Fujian relations, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen organized a concert showcasing the Manila Piano Trio, who dazzled the audience on June 14, 2019 at SM Lifestyle Center in Xiamen City.
The concert, dubbed as “An Evening with the Manila Piano Trio,” mesmerized the crowd with a stunning performance of Filipino music, western classic and Chinese suites under the tutelage of Filipino multi-awarded and renowned pianist Abelardo G. Galang II.
Around 400 guests attended the concert which included Filipino and Chinese business sectors, Filipino community, academe, media and other official contacts as well as shopgoers.
Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores presented Plaques of Appreciation to the Trio as well as to SM-Xiamen Management team led by Social Action Vice President Allan Brosas, for their valuable contribution for the staging of the successful concert.
The Trio is a resident chamber ensemble of the Philippine Women’s University-School of Music, composed of internationally trained artists: pianist Mr. Galang, violinist Denise Michelle Santos-Huang, and cellist Antoni Josef R. Inacay. Both Ms. Santos-Huang and Mr. Inacay are United States-trained, while Mr. Galang was trained in Germany and Japan.
The concert was a joint collaboration of the Consulate General, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and SM Xiamen, as part of the week-long series of activities in commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and mainstreaming activity of Sentro Rizal – Xiamen and cultural diplomacy thrusts for 2019.
