Kuwait – Two months after the overseas voter registration for the May 2022 Presidential Elections was launched in all Philippine embassies and consulates worldwide, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait already registered 5,276 new overseas voters from 16 December 2019 to the end of February 2020.

In a statement, Chargé d’Affaires and Consul General Mohd. Noordin Pendosina N. Lomondot said that the long lines at the Embassy premises since the official start of the overseas voter registration period is a clear proof of the desire of overseas Filipinos in Kuwait to take part in democracy and show their love for the country.

“We anticipate an influx of overseas voter registrants in the weeks to come, as seen in the long lines of overseas voter registrants at the Embassy. Our kababayan have shown their desire to make their voices heard despite being halfway around the world, and to reshape the political landscape in the Philippines,” Chargé d’Affaires Lomondot added.

Out of the 5,276 who have thus far registered as overseas voters in Kuwait, 83 percent or 4,440 are female registrants while 17 percent or 876 are male registrants.

Apart from the 5,276 new overseas voters, 974 more Filipinos in Kuwait availed themselves of other services such as recapturing of biometrics, transfer of voter registration records, application for reinstatement in the national registry of overseas voters, application for correction of wrong entries/misspelled names/change of name in the National Registry of Overseas Voters, withdrawal of overseas voter application for registration/certification, application for reactivation of voter registration records, and application for change of address in Kuwait.

Vice Consul and Resident Election Registration Board Chair Charleson C. Hermosura reminded Filipinos in Kuwait to register for the upcoming national elections. “If you have failed to vote in two consecutive elections, by law, your voter record will be deactivated by the Commission on Elections. Please visit the Embassy to get your voter records reactivated,” Vice Consul Hermosura said.

Overseas voter registration at the Embassy is open from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. from Sundays to Thursdays at the ground floor of the Embassy. In order to register as an overseas voter, applicants are reminded to bring their valid Philippine passport.
