DOT together with the BPO industry to hold job fair for displaced tourism workers

The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) will host a virtual job fair series in August and September to support the recovery of local tourism and its stakeholders.

First conducted in September 2020, the virtual job fair series intends to replace jobs that were lost during the pandemic, particularly those in the tourism industry.

Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat expressed her gratitude to the Department’s partners in setting up yet another event to help those in the industry affected by this crisis.

“The DOT is thankful for the efforts of IBPAP, and for the participation of BPO (business process outsourcing) industries such as iQor, Alorica, Tahche and Manulife for providing opportunities for displaced workers in the tourism sector,” Puyat stressed.

Puyat said the virtual job fair series will help tourism workers who lost their jobs regain their livelihood and resume their career growth, which will then translate into higher economic activities for the country.

“I am confident that the caliber and values of our tourism workers shall be a great asset to your companies,” she added.

The following BPO firms are set to host virtual job fairs this month:

August 9 (10 am to 5 pm) – iQor

August 10 (10 am to 4 pm) – Alorica

August 24 (10 am to 4 pm) – Alorica

August 25 (10 am to 4 pm) – Tahche

Manulife will host its virtual job fair on September 23-24, with the final schedule to be confirmed.

The DOT, through its Tourism Response and Recovery Plan, has so far made strides to manage the effects of the pandemic on the tourism industry, with efforts aimed at training and capacity development, enhancing tourism products and experiences, and securing vaccine doses for tourism workers in key destinations.
