Following the rave views on the recently-concluded Filipino-American History Month (FAHM) cultural fashion show entitled, “Ani,” Consul General Edgar B. Badajos hosted a luncheon meeting with Beverly Hills-based Filipino-American designer Oliver Tolentino, his business partner Mr. Andrew Caruthers, and LA Fashion Week (LAFW) Executive Producer Arthur Chipman on 10 November 2021.

The Consulate arranged the meeting to solicit the fashion stakeholders’ views on creating a platform to further promote Philippine fabrics through the participation of both established as well as up-and-coming Filipino and Filipino-American designers in various fashion shows. The objective is to create a bigger Filipino presence within the US fashion industry within the next few years.

Also present at the meeting were the co-organizers of “Ani,” Mr. Roger and Mrs. Cora Oriel of the Asian Journal and Ms. Trinity Foliente of the Filipino-American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA), as well as Ms. Laura Santos, one of “Ani’s” featured fashion designers.

A visit to the boutique of Mr. Tolentino, located along the most celebrated neighborhood in the country, Beverly Hills, followed after the meeting. Mr. Tolentino, who is known as an advocate of Filipino weavers and embroiderers on the international stage, was the featured designer for the LAFW’s grand finale catwalk event at the Petersen Auto Museum, and Kornit Fashion Show held at the Pacific Stock Exchange Building on 08 October 2021 and 04 November 2021, respectively, which were both attended by the Consulate General.
