Singapore — In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Philippine-Singapore bilateral relations, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore will again be holding the 13th edition of its annual Art Trek from August 24 to September 30, 2019.
“I am excited to hold Art Trek 13 as we continue to innovate the traditional format of featuring only painters. We added sculptors and toy artists during last year’s roster. Now, we have a photo artist and a cultural outreach to serve as a testament to the rich artistry of Filipinos,” Ambassador to Singapore Joseph Del Mar Yap said.
This year, Yavuz Gallery will open Art Trek 13 with a back-to-back exhibition on 24 August 2019 with “Seabound”, featuring Filipino artists who collectively call themselves as ‘The Working Animals Art Projects,’ and a solo exhibition entitled “Dahlia” featuring Keb Cerda.
Miaja Design will then present a joint exhibition entitled “Archipelago” from Larry Calderon, Alain Hablo, Gus Albor, and Ross Capili on 04 September 2019.
On 14 September 2019, Di Legno Gallery will open the exhibition “Crossing Borders” featuring Jayson Tejada.
Momentous Art will then stage a pop-up exhibit at Tanglin starting on 17 September 2019 with “Beauty & Youth (B-Side)” featuring Marilou Solano, Janos Delacruz, Beejay Esber, Stephen Taneo, Raul Jorolan, Pete Jimenez and Jan Calleja.
Utterly Art will open a joint exhibition on 19 September 2019 entitled “Rewind”, featuring Mariano Ching, Kiko Escora, Fernan Escora, Jeho Bitancor, Ronald Caringal, Melvin Culaba, Rendy Dela Cruz, Norman Dreo, Juan Alcazaren, Randy Solon, Pedro Garcia, Kris Soguilon, Jonathan Joven, and Kat Casapao.
For the first time, the Photographic Society of Singapore will host the exhibit “The World through the Eyes of a Filipino Lensman – Jun Pagalilauan” starting 23 September 2019.
Lastly, Art Dialogo will stage an exhibit at Temenggong 18/20 on 26 September 2019.
To make this year’s Art Trek extra special in observance of the golden anniversary of bilateral relations, Singapore-based architect and photo artist Mr. Pagalilauan, will participate for the first time, while a cross-cultural workshop will be conducted by Art Dialogo at Temenggong involving Filipino and Singaporean students.
Through the years, Art Trek has become the Embassy’s centerpiece cultural diplomacy program. It serves as a platform where Filipino artists and Singapore galleries collaborate to further promote Philippine art in the island-state which has become one of the leading art capitals in the world.
