As the international community continues its battle combating the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire Philippine government continued its valiant mission for responding to the urgent needs of Filipinos both in the Philippines and those all around the World.
After already repatriating Filipino seafarers from Italy, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) marches on, this time taking on the critical role in the repatriation and welcoming home of 881 Filipino crewmen from the USA in the early morning of April 1.
“The DFA works with other government agencies and the private sector in this whole of government approach to facilitate the seamless repatriation of our workers,” stated Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola.
The DFA along with the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, closely coordinated with several government departments to ensure the seamless repatriation—from the Department of Health, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Department of Transportation, Department of Interior and Local Government, in addition to local manning agencies.
The group of repatriates was composed of 445 seafarers from Norwegian Cruises Dawn and Encore and 436 from MV Magica and MV Favolosa.
The repatriated seafarers will undergo the mandatory 14-day facility-based quarantine that is monitored by the Bureau of Quarantine.
