The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles led by Consul General Edgar B. Badajos joined the Filipino-American community in San Diego, CA for the grand opening ceremony of the “House of the Philippines” at Balboa Park in the afternoon of 01 October 2021.

With its formal opening, the House of Philippines officially joins 32 other cultural cottages in Balboa Park that house cultural artifacts belonging to the country they were dedicated to. The land on which the House was built was donated by the City of San Diego, but its construction was shouldered by the Filipino-American community. The cultural cottages are administered by the House of Pacific Relations, a community organization that promotes goodwill and understanding through educational and cultural programs.

In his remarks during the occasion, Consul General Badajos expressed deepest appreciation to the leadership of the City of San Diego for their support in the construction of the House of the Philippines. He likewise commended the Board members, donors for their collective sacrifices in making the construction of the House of the Philippines a reality.

Also in attendance during the event were San Diego Council President Pro Tem Stephen Whitburn, Councilmember Chris Cate of District 13, Philippine Honorary Consul in San Diego Atty. Audie De Castro, leaders of various Filipino community organizations and Fil-Am entrepreneurs in San Diego.
