Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Hjayceelyn M. Quintana launched Friday night the first of the Embassy Bangkóta Apex Speaker Series (E-BASS) at the Philippine Bangkóta Pavilion at the World Expo 2020 Dubai on 29 October 2021 with the first featured speaker, the head of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) Director General Joel Joseph Marciano Jr.

Bangkóta visitors listened to DG Marciano talk about the Philippine space programme and enjoyed seeing at close range a replica of the Philippines’ first microsatellite, Maya 1, which stayed in orbit for more than two years after its launch in 2018.

In the Q and A that followed the talk, overseas Filipino Leny Antonio of the Kabayan Kapit Bisig, a Filipino community group affiliated with the Filipino Social Club (FilSoc), asked how Filipinos like her can help the country’s space programme which drew applause from the audience. DG Marciano said that the help of all Filipinos is needed by PhilSA in “encouraging their sons and daughters to develop interest in courses related to science and technology, for them to become the Philippines’ future scientists and astronauts.”

The first E-BASS was timed during the Space Week at the World Expo 2020.
