MANILA, 27 DECEMBER 2018 – Online hiring in the Philippines has been consistently positive for the past few months and this trend continued in November. The country saw an impressive 23% year-on-year jump in online recruitment between November 2017 and 2018, according to findings from the Monster Employment Index (MEI).

In terms of industries, Retail led the way for growth in the Philippines with a 38% annual growth this November, maintaining it’s consistent positive uptrend since August 2017.

This was closely followed by Healthcare with an impressive 33% year-on-year growth. Other industries such as Hospitality, BFSI and Advertising also saw notable growth numbers of 26%, 25% and 21% year-on-year, respectively.

The only industry to record a decline out of the 12 industries monitored by the Index was Education with a 5% drop between November 2017 and 2018, up by 3 points from October’s 8% yearly drop rate.

The Monster Employment Index (MEI) is a gauge of online job posting activity compiled monthly by Monster.com. It records the industries and occupations that show the highest and lowest growth in recruitment activity locally.

When looking at job roles, the Monster Employment Index noted an uptrend overall, with all occupations recording positive growth for the month of November.

The most drastic growth was in the Purchase/Logistics/Supply Chain profession with a whopping 46% year-on-year growth, followed by Finance & Accounts with a 38% rise.

Healthcare professions recorded a 29% increase in demand, and while this is 7 points less than October’s 26% annual growth rate, they were most in-demand on a six-month basis.

Other notable professions such as Marketing & Communications, Customer Service and Hospitality & Travel clocked in growth numbers of 25%, 24% and 13%, between November 2017 and 2018.

“The Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) recently revealed an upswing in the Philippines’s employment landscape with 800,000 new jobs created this year. The consistently positive uptrend in online hiring recorded by the Monster Employment Index over the last few years is in line with this,” said Abhijeet Mukherjee, CEO of Monster.com – APAC and Middle East.

“As the Filipino government continues its efforts to attract investments in HRD, Research & Development, Finance and Infrastructure, hiring outlook looks positive, especially for related occupations.”

The Monster Employment Index is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity, based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career websites and online job listings across the Philippines.
