Ongoing works of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) at the Bonifacio Global City to Ortigas Center Road Link Project has made quite a lot of progress, and if all things proceed as planned, the project will be partially open to motorists by June 2021.
Secretary Mark A. Villar said that they are looking to finish remaining civil work activities at the four-lane, two-way Sta. Monica – Lawton Bridge which is a major component of the P1.793 Billion BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project.
The entire bridge across Pasig River seems to be completely linked, though it is still undergoing some finishing touches on median barrier, parapet, and installation of street light as safety feature, added Secretary Villar.
Secretary Villar together with Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil K. Sadain and UPMO-Roads Management Cluster 1 (Bilateral) Project Managers Benjamin Bautista and Ricarte S. Mañalac made an inspection on Friday, Apri 23, 2021 of the project.
“I’m happy to announce that soon, we can open the bridge for our motorists once the up and down ramps near Kalayaan Avenue are fully completed”, said Secretary Villar.
Undersecretary Sadain reported that other than the bridge, DPWH is presently doing full blast works for the rehabilitation and widening the portion of Brixton Street corner Reliance, to Fairlane Street.
For the Lawton Avenue to Kalayaan Section, laying of steel deck are completed with pre-stressed concrete girder casted from pier 8 to 18 while continuous fabrication and installation of reinforcements of pre-stressed girder, fabrication of rebar cage and embankment for approach road at the 8th Avenue to end of project in BGC is on-going, added Undersecretary Sadain.
The entire 1.367-kilometer BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project, including the Lawton Avenue – Global City Viaduct, is expected to be completed this 2021.
Once finished, the project would reduce travel time between BGC and Ortigas Center from a one-hour trip to 12 minutes.
