Makati — Thirty six Philippine food producers and manufacturers are set to take on the demand of the global market in the country’s much-awaited comeback  in the Allgemeine Nahrungs- und Genussmittel-Ausstellung, also known as Anuga, on October 5-9, 2019 located along Hall 01.1 (D-040g to E-049g) at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.

Held biennially, Anuga is the world’s largest and most important food and beverage fair which presents 10 specialized trade shows under one roof, showcasing a diverse product selection in the global food industry. It brings together over 165,000 trade visitors from 198 countries.

Under the FoodPhilippines pavilion, country’s delegation is focusing on the distinct taste and creative applications of the country’s ‘Premium 7’ export products, namely banana, cacao, coconut, coffee, mango, pineapple and tuna.

This year’s delegation also brings salmon, sardines, oriental noodles, shrimp, gluten-free pasta, confectionaries and baking ingredients, fruit beverages, and a variety of sauces, spices and condiments, among other food products.

The delegation will be led by Abdulgani Macatoman, who is the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary for Special Concerns and Trade Promotions Group, and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, in coordination with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Berlin.

Biggest delegation yet in the world’s largest food expo

“This is the Philippines’ biggest delegation yet in our years of participating in ANUGA,” said Macatoman. “Initially, we were expecting to have only 31 exhibitors but our roster composed of food manufacturers and homegrown producers blew up to 36.”

“This just shows the abundance and the sheer growth of the country’s food sector with many of our local firms are looking to leverage on the increasing food demand in the global market and what better way to do that than to be at the world’s biggest food show,” explained Macatoman.

According to CITEM Executive Director Pauline Suaco-Juan, 21 out of 36 Philippine companies exhibiting under the FoodPhilippines pavilion are first-time participants in Anuga, a bulk which are companies that will be presented under the One Town, One Product (OTOP) section.

Nineteen food manufacturers participating under the FoodPhilippines pavilion will be showcasing their product with their booth. These include the Alliance Select Foods International, Inc., Amley Food Corporation, Celebes Canning Corporation, Century Pacific Food, Inc., Eau de Coco, Inc., Fitrite, Inc, Green Enviro Management Systems, Inc., GSL Premium Food Export Corp, Mega Global Corporation, Oleo-fats, Incorporated, Phil. Grocers Food Exports, Inc., Phil-Union Frozen Foods, Inc., Profood International Corporation, Q-Phil Products International, Sagrex Foods, Inc., Seatrade Canning Corporation, See’s International Food Mfg. Corp, Super Q and Superstar Coconut Products co., Inc.

Meanwhile, the OTOP section will  cluster 17 local micro-, small- and medium-enterprises (MSMEs) led by Demphna Du-Naga, the DTI Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations Group. The OTOP section will feature products and delicacies from various regions and communities across the Philippines.

“Along with the well-known exporters, local food producers under the OTOP section will elevate the country’s iconic and quintessential flavors from local farms and grassroots communities to surprise and delight the global palate,” said Suaco-Juan.

Local food companies under the OTOP section includes Ahya Coco Organic Food Manufacturing Corp, B-G Fruits and Nuts Manufacturing Corporation, Baker’s Field Enterprises, Business Innovations Gateway Incorporated, Mira’s Turmeric Products, Cocoplus Aquarian Development Corporation, Edna and Rebecca’s Banana Chips & Coated Peanut, Filbake Food Corporation, Gees Agri Coco Products Corporation, Ilocos Food Products, Island’s Best Foods, Jedidiah Food Industry, Makiling Organics, Mango King Food Products, Pasciolco Agri Ventures, Philippine Moringa and More Corporation and Raw Brown Sugar Milling Company, Inc.

“Visitors are welcome to sample our sumptuous selections and engage our Filipino food companies, especially those that are made our first-time exhibitors in Anuga,” Suaco-Juan said. “We want to get feedback from buyers in Anuga on how our food products can become more palatable for their taste and how it can jive with cuisines on tables across Europe.”

This participation under FoodPhilippines is led by DTI-CITEM in partnership with the PTIC office in Berlin, OTOP Philippines and Foreign Trade Services Corps (FTSC) as part of the government’s unified effort to promote the Philippines as a source of quality food products in the global market.

DTI-CITEM is committed to developing, nurturing and promoting globally competitive small and medium enterprises (SMEs), exporters, designers and manufacturers by implementing an integrated approach to export marketing in partnership with other government and private entities.
