Buenos Aires — The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires, together with the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, and in cooperation with the city of Buenos Aires, held the second ASEAN Bazaar in Buenos Aires on April 6, 2019.

The diversity of ASEAN culture and cuisine is on full display at the Plaza Republica del Peru in Buenos Aires, which was made even more special by the various cultural performances throughout the day.

Filipino food, which is enjoying a culinary renaissance in many parts of the world, also received a lot of buzz from event-goers, as local chef Marta Ramirez’s interpretation of classic Filipino staples such as chicken adobo, kinilaw, and lumpia, all proved to be crowd-pleasers.

In addition, Filipino community leaders also sold traditional desserts, such as bibingka and other rice cakes.

Argentine Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Luis Maria Beltramino was the even t’s guest of honor. Among the attendees spotted were the Ambassadors of Japan, Canada, Turkey, Costa Rica, Germany, Egypt and Romania, as well as various officials from the US Embassy, chambers of commerce, the academe, and local media.

The ASEAN Bazaar was conceived by ASEAN Embassies in Buenos Aires as a vehicle to bring greater awareness of the cultures, traditions, and peoples of Southeast Asia to the Argentine public.
