GMA Network pays tribute to the one and only German ‘Kuya Germs’ Moreno and his valuable contributions and loyalty to the Network by renaming one of its studios – the German Moreno Studio.
Marking the 85th birthday of Kuya Germs on October 4, the Network remembers the industry’s star builder extraordinaire and the man behind the ground-breaking variety shows at GMA including Germside, Germspesyal, GMA Supershow, That’s Entertainment and Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.
During the dedication ceremony, GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon relived Kuya Germs’ enormous and lasting contribution to the lives of many individuals and in show business, “We are grateful to Kuya Germs for devoting the more successful and longest part of his illustrious career in show business. Naming our Studio 6 after him will ensure that he will never be forgotten for his legendary contributions to the industry and his generosity to everyone in show business.”
GMA Chief Operating Officer and President Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. described Kuya Germs as the epitome of a loyal Kapuso as he spent almost five decades of his showbiz life in the network, “Hindi natulog, hindi kumupas at walang naging katulad ang ipinakitang loyalty ni Kuya Germs sa GMA Network. Nag-iisa lang talaga ang ating minamahal na Master Showman.”
GMA Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Felipe S. Yalong, in turn, shared that Kuya Germs lived his colorful life out of love and passion, “Talagang makulay at makabuluhan ang naging buhay ni Kuya Germs. Karangalan kong masaksihan ang buong-puso niyang pagmamahal sa industriyang ito.”
GMA Films President Atty. Annette M. Gozon proved that Kuya Germs was a man of humility and generosity, “I’ve always admired Kuya Germs in his commitment to help aspiring stars. He had the vision, that’s why so many world-class Filipino talents came from him. And even if he was ‘the’ Kuya Germs, talagang very down-to-earth. I’m very happy that we commemorate Kuya Germs by naming the studio after him.”
GMA Entertainment Group Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable took pride in Kuya Germs’ hard work, integrity, and undeniable influence in the industry, “It was such a great honor working with him. Ang mga leksyon at payo na ibinahagi niya sa aming mga taga-gawa ng mga programa at sa mga artistang mga nakakatrabaho namin, lahat ‘yon ay napapakinabangan namin hanggang sa ngayon. Kaya isang malaking pasasalamat talaga sa legacy ni Kuya Germs.”
GMA First Vice President for Program Management Joey R. Abacan recognized that Kuya Germs have touched so many lives, including his, “Kuya Germs, I’ll always be grateful for the friendship na namuo sa ating dalawa. Now that we are naming the studio after you, ang kaligayahan at ang pagmamahal na ibinigay mo sa amin will remain with us forever here in GMA.”
Meanwhile, Kuya Germs’ family led by his son Federico Moreno, described Kuya Germs as “a man who did not just devote his life to his craft but also to the people he truly loves.” Federico expressed his deep admiration for his father’s dedication to his profession and his selflessness, “For me, the most significant part of his life is honest to goodness love. I would like to say thank you for this honor that you have bestowed on him. I am sure he is here. I know in his wildest dreams, he would never expect this because he never expected anything back.”
One of Kuya Germs’ dearest friends Marichu “Manay Ichu” Maceda thanked the Network for valuing Kuya Germs’ works and loyalty, “I would like to extend our deepest and sincerest gratitude to GMA from the executives and to all the employees of GMA for having treated German as your very own. For that, we will forever be grateful to you.”
DSWD Undersecretary Isko Moreno, one of Kuya Germs’ talents, testified to the late icon’s loyalty, “Today, he teaches us that it pays to be loyal. Ipinakita niya na ang pagiging matapat ng isang tao ay pagbubungahan niya hanggang sa kabilang buhay. We were taught that way by Kuya Germs many times.”
The momentous occasion was graced by various personalities close to Kuya Germs’ heart including MTRCB Chairperson Maria Rachel Arenas, Queen of Philippine Movies Ms. Gloria Romero, John Nite, and his grandchildren Jose Miguel, Franshesca, Luis Gabriel and Jaime Rafael Moreno.
Kapuso stars Jestoni Alarcon, Tina Paner, Sheryl Cruz, Jackie Lou Blanco, Sanya Lopez, Jak Roberto, Jake Vargas, Renz Valerio, Marika Sasaki, Will Ashley, and other GMA Network executives were also present to honor their mentor, friend and father figure in showbiz.
