PARIS 31 October 2018 — Filipino artists Dhon Dela Paz, Francis Eric Dimarucut, and Nior Salonga highlighted Filipino traits—deep love for family, hard work, and an optimistic view of life—in their paintings exhibited during the 20th Portes Ouvertes Des Ateliers D’Artistes.
Held in Montreuil, France from 12-15 October 2018, this is the first time that Filipino artists took part in this annual event held since 1999.
Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro expressed her support to the Filipino painters saying, “The Embassy is proud that the Philippines has entered the art scene in Montreuil. It is good, that through art, French people can be made aware of the positive values of the Filipinos.”
Mr. Dela Paz’s work has the trademark trumpo (spinning top), a traditional toy played by Filipino kids. For him, the trumpo reflects the sacrifices of his parents and the continuity of life.
Another artist, Mr. Dimarucut, include common Filipino scenes such as a breakfast table with newspaper and longganisa (Filipino breakfast sausages) in his works.
For his part Mr. Salonga mentioned that his work reflects the close relationship he has with his father, and the need to maintain hopeful despite the chaos of life. END
