CEBU – A gathering of low-cost carriers’ stakeholders is set in the Province of Cebu from June 24 to 25 according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The CAPA – Centre of Aviation Low-Cost Carriers (LCC) in North Asia Summit 2019, jointly organized by the DOT and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), will discuss the key challenges and strategic issues of the LCC industry in the region.
“Cebu is no stranger to hosting big-ticket events particularly aviation gatherings with its flagship airport serving as the perfect backdrop. The DOT and MCIAA are ready for the CAPA LCC Summit,” DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.
Tourism Undersecretary for Tourism Development Benito Bengzon Jr. welcomes the delegates in lieu of Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat

Various North Asia LCC senior executives and industry experts from across the entire aviation value chain will make their way to the “most beautiful airport in the country today”, Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

“Low-cost carriers offer more affordable options for more tourists to visit the Visayas and the rest of the country as the expansion of LCCs from the North Asia region is poised outside of Manila,” Secretary Romulo-Puyat added.
According to a CAPA report, LCCs comprise a 60% share of seat capacity of the non-Manila-Philippines market compared to the 33% share of the Manila-Philippines North Asia market.
Cebu’s MCIA is the second largest gateway of the country to North Asia accounting for19% of Philippines-North Asia seat capacity with LCC share of 54% Cebu-North Asia capacity.
Six other airports namely Kalibo, Clark, Puerto Princesa, Tagbilaran and Iloilo have LCC services to North Asia.
Cebu Pacific Air, a Philippine LCC and the airline host for this CAPA summit, and AirAsia Philippines are serving the North Asia region while nine North Asian LCCs are operating in the Philippines namely China’s Lucky Air, Jetstar Japan, Tigerair Taiwan and South Korea’s Air Seoul, Easter Jet, T’way, Air Busan Jin Air, and Jeju Air.
CAPA LCCs in North Asia Summit brings together CAPA – Centre for Aviation Chairman Emeritus Peter Harbison, DOT Undersecretary for Tourism Development Benito Bengzon Jr., MCIAA General Manager Steve Dicdican, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Captain Jim Sydiongco who is also representing Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, and other prominent figures in the aviation industry.
Roundtable and panel discussions tackles the challenges and opportunities of LCCs in the North Asia, LCCs and the tourism industry, LCC market share in Asia Pacific, new distribution models of LCCs, digital transformation of the aviation ecosystem, future of LCCs, aircraft developments, airport collaboration, and LCC air finance outlook.
