Makati City — The Philippine Dental Association will conduct the very first National Toothbrushing Day celebration this February 3. Through the efforts of its current president, Dr. Stephen B. Almonte, the nationwide institutionalization of this activity that is set to take place every 1st Monday of February will help boost oral health awareness among Filipinos as well as help in lowering the caries index prevalence in the country.
National Toothbrushing Day aims to coincide with the celebration of the National Dental Health month through simultaneous nationwide tooth brushing. This is to promote the importance of maintaining good oral health for all ages and all sectors of the society. The main highlight of the event will be on good tooth brushing habits, proper technique and emphasis on the need to brush for two (2) minutes twice a day.
Members from different PDA Dental Chapters and Affiliates with 26,000 participants are expected to join the activity nationwide. The Manila Dental Chapter will spearhead the festivities at Bonifacio Shrine in Ermita, Manila that will serve as the pilot chapter for this program.
Consequently, 1,000 participants from different sectors of the society—from day care students to senior citizens–will be joining this activity. All participating chapters and affiliates with their corresponding participants will simultaneously hold tooth brushing activities in their respective venues at exactly 9:30 am and will be aired live in their respective Facebook pages.
This noble project together with other month-long activities of the 16th National Dental Health Month is supported by the Philippine Information Agency.
The pilot venue in Manila will be graced by Mayor Francisco “ Isko Moreno” Domagoso as guest of honor together with the representative from Department of Health (DOH), President Dr. Stephen B. Almonte and officers of the Philippine Dental Association.
