Makati, Philippines – Asian Eye Institute launches the EyeScan Caravan to different malls in Metro Manila, to provide free eye disease pre-screening to mall goers.

Entitled Life without Filters, the EyeScan Caravan is a series of eye scanning events aimed at helping the public discover how eye conditions can affect their vision, similar to how camera filters change the way you see photographs. Undergoing the scan encourages an appreciation for the value of clear vision, and educates people about their own eye health.

“Many Filipinos are seeing their lives with a filter. They’re looking at the world with haziness or with dark spots in their vision, because of eye disease,” says Asian Eye VP and General Manager Alwin S. Sta. Rosa. “Many eye diseases don’t manifest symptoms until they are in an advanced stage. But the EyeScan can help you find out early if you are at risk.”

EyeScan is an eye disease pre-screening service that can detect if a person is showing signs of sight-threatening problems like cataract, glaucoma, retinal problems and cornea and external disease.

In only 10 to 15-minutes, the EyeScan takes digital images of the front and back parts of the eyes. In one week, results of the scan will be delivered to patients through email or picked up from the Asian Eye clinic in the mall where they get the scan done.

Open to the public, the caravan hopes to help mall goers gain insight on how a person with an eye condition sees the world and educate them on the value of eye checkups and proper eye care habits. “Clear vision transforms lives. We hope to show these mall goers the beauty of living life without filters and enjoy the beauty of the world around us,” Sta. Rosa says.

Asian Eye has an interactive booth that features a Vision Gallery where event participants can learn about the different sight-threatening conditions and try on glasses that allow them to see or experience what it is like to live a life with eye conditions. An Eye Selfie Booth is also available in which the photo prints show the vision of people with eye conditions.

In partnership with the Power Plant Mall, the EyeScan Caravan started on March 10-11 from 11AM-6PM. Afterwards, it will roll out to the following malls:

  • Commercenter Alabang Activity: March 24 to 25, 10AM to 6PM
  • U.P. Town Center Activity Area: April 7 to 8, 10AM to 6PM
  • TriNoma Cinema Area: April 21 to 22, 10AM to 6PM

“In the past years, we held vision screenings at the Powerplant Mall. In 2015, we found that as much as 18% of 1500 mall goers scanned had indications of eye disease. That is why for the first time, we are holding a series of events in the different malls where our clinics are located. This is our way of reaching out to more Filipinos,” Mr. Alwin Sta. Rosa adds.

The EyeScan Caravan is done through the generosity of our sponsors. Platinum sponsors include Rustan Commercial Corporation and the Philippine Italian Association. Our major sponsor is Power Plant Mall. Minor sponsors are Securities Transfer Services Inc., ThermaPrime and Eugenio Lopez Center. Our media sponsors are Lifestyle Asia, Philippine Graphic, AbanteTonite, Summit Media, Balikbayan Magazine, Asian Journal and Mommy Mundo.  Sta Rosa says, “We are happy to have partners who believe in the importance of eye health in maintaining a good quality of life.”

The EyeScan Caravan is a part of Asian Eye’s initiatives to celebrate its 15th year anniversary. Aligned with the theme, “Transforming Lives with Clear Vision,” Asian Eye kicked off its year-long celebration in September 2016 by supporting the film Barcelona: A Love Untold, where it also promoted the EyeScan technology. It also launched the 100 Eyes Cataract Surgery in partnership with the Cataract Foundation of the Philippines to provide indigent patients with free cataract surgery.
