The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines’ Public Affairs Section, through EducationUSA, and the U.S. Commercial Service Office invited more than 150 Filipino education agents and guidance counselors to a virtual training on the U.S. college application process on Friday, May 14.

The panel discussion and workshop included presentations from experienced guidance counselors, EducationUSA advisers, a U.S. Embassy specialist, and a Consular officer, who discussed U.S. higher education, study consortia, student visas, admission requirements, and financial aid opportunities.

Supporting and empowering counselors, who play a vital role in coaching students interested in applying to U.S. universities, remains a top priority for EducationUSA. Meanwhile, the U.S. Commercial Service works with education-related institutions and agents to promote the United States as a premier study destination. Both offices are committed to working with a full array of institutions, organizations, and individuals to advance opportunities for qualified Filipino students to study in the United States.

EducationUSA provides free advising services to prospective international students in more than 170 countries, and offers students resources and tools to help navigate the five steps to U.S. study: researching schools, identifying financial aid opportunities, completing applications, obtaining a student visa, and preparing for departure. There are more than 4,700 accredited higher education institutions in the United States, and an EducationUSA adviser can help students narrow their options, define their priorities, and plan their college careers. EducationUSA does not offer scholarships but can assist students in identifying scholarship and financial assistance opportunities.
