HONG KONG 13 September 2018 – An emerging Filipino designer reached the grand finals of this year’s Redress Design Award, the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 06 September 2018.
Nurse-turned-designer CJ Martin showcased his collection inspired by the receding glaciers in the environmental documentary “Chasing Ice” using secondhand polyester curtains and denim jeans for his creations.
He is currently the Creative Director of his own fashion brand with a diploma in Fashion Design and Marketing from the SoFA Design Institute in Philippines.
Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong representatives attended the grand finals fashion show to show support with the designer’s family and friends.
He is one of 11 finalists from across the world who featured striking, waste-reducing collections.
The competition, which lasted for nine months with talents from 55 countries competing for the top prize, aimed at educating emerging fashion designers about sustainable design theories and techniques including fashion’s negative environmental impacts, and using techniques such as zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction to cut waste out of fashion.
Redress was founded by Christina Dean in 2007 to build Hong Kong’s reputation as a sustainable fashion hub.
