At least 140 officials from the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Philippine universities and colleges attended the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines’ multi-day workshop on building an interdisciplinary approach to cyber education from July 27 to 31.
The U.S. Embassy’s EducationUSA office hosted the event on Zoom in collaboration with CHED. Embassy Acting Public Affairs Officer Nina Lewis and CHED Commissioner Aldrin Darilag kicked off the event by highlighting the significance of a collaborative and strengthened cybersecurity approach in higher education.
“As part of the CHED-U.S. Embassy agreement signed in July 2019, the Commission on Higher Education and U.S. Embassy Manila have partnered with the University of Cincinnati to hold a four-day workshop in new approaches to cyber education to help advance national cyber education,” said Commissioner Darilag.
Through this initiative driven by a former U.S. Fulbright Scholar to the Philippines, the U.S. Embassy has funded the first phase of this cybersecurity project.
Experts from the University of Cincinnati covered various topics during the event, including cybersecurity administration, fundamentals of cybersecurity and information technology, cyber range operations and uses, and cybersecurity as a social science.
In addition to assisting and advising Filipinos interested in studying in the United States, EducationUSA Philippines fosters partnership between Philippine higher education institutions and accredited U.S. higher education institutions.
