Vienna, Austria — Ambassador to Austria Maria Cleofe R. Natividad was elected Chair of the Committee of the Whole (COW) of the 63rd General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held here from September 16 to 19, 2019.
COW deliberated on 12 agenda items, including 16 resolutions, related to various aspects of the agency’s work.
Under the Philippine chairmanship, the COW was able to finish its work in a historic and unprecedented record of under three hours, spread throughout one and a half days, garnering overwhelming acclaim from delegations and IAEA Secretariat officials alike.
The Ambassador attributed her success to the Vienna spirit of consensus, cooperation and flexibility, following weeks of intensive informal negotiations.
