West Australian Ballet Welcomes First Filipino Soloist

PERTH 11 December 2018 – The West Australian Ballet welcomed its first Filipino soloist dancer, Candice Adea, who performed at the production of The Nutcracker from 16 November to 09 December at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth.

Ms. Adea is a former Ballet Philippines Principal and Hong Kong Ballet Soloist. She was the first Filipina to win at the Helsinski International Ballet Competition, taking first place in the Senior Women’s Division in 2012.

The multi-awarded artist was trained in the Philippines. She went to the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dance School, Philippine High School for the Arts, and De La Salle College of St. Benilde.

Considered as Australia’s first ballet company, the West Australian Ballet is the State Ballet Company for Western Australia based in Perth. West Australian Ballet Artistic Director Aurelien Scannella said, “It’s exciting to have a dancer of Candice’s experience join West Australian Ballet. I am thrilled to have her joining us.”

On 05 December 2018, the West Australian Ballet and the Philippine Consulate in Perth, led by Honorary Consul Michael Gillis, welcomed guests to a reception before the performance and afterwards for a meet and greet with Ms. Adea.
