Filipino Athletes’ Medal Count Reaches 93 in Arafura Games

Darwin, Australia – The Philippines won 93 medals—28 gold, 41 silvers and 24 bronzes–at the 2019 Arafura Games on April 26 to May 4, 2019 in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

The Philippines’ contingent, composed of 158 team officials, coaches and athletes, arrived in Darwin on April 24, 2019. The delegation participated in athletics, basketball, badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, muay thai, swimming and weight lifting.

More than 40 countries participated in the 2019 Arafura Games, which is held every two years, featuring 17 sports disciplines. The Arafura Games is a unique, inclusive multi-sport event where athletes with a disability compete in the same program as able-bodied athletes. Competitors from around the world compete in the week-long games held every two years in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

In the spirit of bayanihan, Filipino community members in Darwin extended their support to the athletes.

Volunteers from the Filipino community are supporting the Filipino contingent in their official capacity as Arafura Games Team Attachés, include Junn De Guzman, Alfredo Ocampo, Joan Ocampo, Edna Rivas and Philippine Honorary Consul General Januario John R. Rivas.
