QUEZON CITY, Nov. 18 — The 45th SSEAYP (Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program) Country Program has officially started! MS Nippon Maru arrived in Pier 15, Manila, earlier today. Commissioner Paul Anthony Pangilinan, Chairperson of the 45th SSEAYP National Organizing Committee (NOC) and officials from the National Youth Commission (NYC) graced the arrival of the ship.
“For forty-five years, SSEAYP has been an avenue for valuable friendships and goodwill among the youth delegates of every country. Finally, after three years, the Philippines will once again host the SSEAYP Country Program. We hope that every delegate will enjoy the Filipino culture and feel the hospitality of every Filipino in their 4-day stay in our country,” NYC Chairperson Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema said.
The National Youth Commission, the lead organizing agency of the 45th SSEAYP Country Program in cooperation with other government agencies, private institutions and SSEAYP International Philippines have been preparing for the arrival of the 360 youth leaders from the ASEAN Member States and Japan since July 2018. During the dinner of their arrival today, November 17, NYC prepared for a ceremony to formally welcome the delegates along with guests and public officials. Aside from formal ceremonies, one of the most awaited part of the country program is the Homestay where youth will stay with their gracious Filipino families for two nights.
“The 45th SSEAYP Country Program to be hosted by the Philippines is a cost-efficient way of promoting the Philippines to other ASEAN Countries and Japan. One of the good things about SSEAYP is that ASEAN Countries and Japan will be able to promote their country and culture by letting youths gain first-hand experiences about the culture of the countries they visit,” Chairpeson Cardema added.
Aside from Formal Ceremonies and Homestay, youth leaders will also visit several institutions that tackle Youth Entrepreneurships, Cross-Cultural Understanding Promotion, Environment, Health, ASEAN-Japan Cooperation, Education, and Information and Media on Sunday, November 18.
On November 20, 2018, NYC also prepared for a farewell ceremony before they sail to Bangkok, Thailand.
