PH Chef Shows Off Culinary Talents in HK

HONG KONG 16 October 2018 – A Filipino chef competed to become Asia’s best young chef at the Jeunes Talents Escoffier (Young Talents Escoffier), organized by UBM Asia at the Restaurant and Bar Hong Kong (RBHK) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 05 September 2018.

Chef Vin Angelo Soriano, who competed against eight other young chefs from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, was tasked to create his own version of the recipes of Auguste Escoffier, who is widely regarded as the father of modern French cuisine.

Consul General to Hong Kong Antonio A. Morales encouraged Chef Vin to do his best and promote Philippine cuisine through his culinary creations in the competition, which is one of the most important and prestigious annual international competitions for chefs aged under 25.

Graduating from the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management, Chef Vin worked at Shangri-La The Fort in two of their fine dining restaurants. Filipino celebrity chef Sau del Rosario, who is the current President of the Philippine Young Talent Trophy 2018/Disciples Escoffier Asia, mentored the young Filipino chef.

Consul General Morales led the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong’s Political and Economic team in attending the competition’s opening ceremony to show support for Chef Vin, along with members of the consular corps, culinary and hospitality leaders, and renowned chefs.

Judges included three Michelin-starred French chef Michel Portos. The winner of the three-day competition from 05 to 07 September 2018 was the candidate from Hong Kong, Mr. Bill Hin Long Cheng, who will represent Asia in the global final in France.
