PH Honorary Consul General Luiz Paulo Sequeira, Jr. of Rio de Janeiro PHCG called on Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. (CDA) Leilani S. Feliciano on 13 May 2021 to discuss possibilities for bilateral, cultural and economic cooperation between the Philippines and Brazil, particularly Rio de Janeiro, for 2021 during the time of coronavirus pandemic.

The two officials discussed investment potentials in the Philippines to promote bilateral trade between the two countries as well as a possible Asian event fair in Rio de Janeiro once the situation allows it. They also discussed ways on enhancing the cultural, trade and tourism relations between Manila and Rio de Janeiro.

Also discussed during the meeting was the successful Dive PH activity, a four-day tourism promotion event held in one of the largest malls in Brasilia in November 2019 where the Diplomatic Corps, Brazilian media (newspaper journalists, magazine writers and TV media), tour operators, travel agencies, mall visitors, and Brazilian travelers/tourists and dive enthusiasts attended. CDA Feliciano expressed her hope that the proposed DivePH tourism activity in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will push through as soon as conditions improve as this has already been in the pipeline of Economic Diplomacy and Tourism Promotion activities pre-pandemic.
