With the third molecular laboratory that is expected to open anytime soon, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) can now conduct 12,000 tests per day in the National Capital Region (NCR).

PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard J. Gordon said, the additional testing center for Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is being set up at the former national headquarters of Red Cross at the Port Area in Manila.

The facility, which was constructed in two weeks, will be equipped with four sets of testing machines. This is an addition to the first two COVID testing centers of the PRC which are now up and running.

The first center is situated at its national headquarters in Mandaluyong City, while the second one is at the PRC’s Logistics Center located just behind its national headquarters.

“The focus is we cannot beat this unless we unmask the invisible enemy, and we can only do that by testing. Then you can separate them, isolate them, and you start healing people. The focus must be victory over the virus,” he pointed out.

On Tuesday, April 28, Gordon visited the third molecular laboratory at the second floor of PRC’s Hemodialysis Center to make sure that the testing center is ready to operate on its target opening day.

The Red Cross, he said, is planning to add 20 more laboratories throughout the entire country.
