Copenhagen — The Copenhagen-based Filipino food stall Thrilla bagged the People’s Choice Awards in the finale of the 2019 European Street Food Annual Awards held in Malmo, Sweden on September 28-29, 2019.
“Never seen so many votes before (in previous Street Food Awards),” one of the three judges said.
The European Street Food Annual Awards is the most prominent street food competition in the world. Thousands applied, hundreds competed, and only 22 finalists from 15 countries reached the finale. Two finalists were from Denmark—Thrilla in Manila, Philippines, and Dhaba Kitchen, India—which both won the Denmark leg of the Awards on September 13-15, 2019 in Copenhagen.
Thrilla in Manila is a family-owned business run by Filipino husband and wife, Alfie and Carmelita Escabarte. The couple aimed to be the first to present Filipino food fusion in Denmark. Their stall was located at Reffen Copenhagen Street Food, and their signature dish is the Filipino barbeque.
