Philippines promoted as investment destination in Italy

Rome, Italy — Ambassador to Italy Domingo Nolasco promoted the Philippines as a trade and investment destination at the Turin-ASEAN Business Days held in Turin, Italy on June 17 – 18, 2019.

In his remarks, Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the Philippines as an economic bright spot in Asia and emphasized the country’s continuously improving investment environment and human capital advantage.

“The Philippines, a fast-growing and consumption-driven economy, has been a profitable market for Italian exports. Italian companies should not miss on Philippine investment opportunities. The Philippines is not only an export market, but also a profitable investment destination,” said Ambassador Nolasco.

The Ambassador also encouraged Italian investors to take advantage of the Philippines investment priorities, which include all qualified manufacturing including agro-processing; agriculture, fishery, and forestry; strategic services; infrastructure and logistics, including Public-Private Partnership for local governments; health care; innovation drivers; and energy.

Apart from Ambassador Nolasco, Malaysian Ambassador to Italy Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Myanmar Ambassador to Italy Myint Naung, Thai Ambassador to Italy Chirdu Raktabutr and Vienamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Thi Bich Hue and the Deputy Deputy Chief of Mission of Indonesia J.S. George Lantu served as speakers during the panel session on Italy-ASEAN relations. Consul General to Milan Irene Susan B. Natividad also attended the event.

With over 300 participants from the public and private sectors, the event was jointly organized by the University of Turin and the Torino Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Torino World Affairs Institute and in major Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo.

The TO-ASEAN Business Days was opened by important officials from Turin such as Mayor Chiara Appendino and Torino Chamber of Commerce President Vicenzo Illote, former President of the European Commission and former Prime Minister of Italy Romano Prodi was the keynote speaker at the event.

On the second day of the event, business-to-business meetings were conducted. Paris-based Philippine Trade and Investment Center Commercial Attaché Froilan Pamintuan had one-on-one meetings with interested Italian companies.
