Philippine Embassy in Damascus organizes Filipino food festival

Damascus, Syria —The Philippine Embassy in Damascus organized a barrio-fiesta themed Philippine Food Festival at Lina’s Paris Café on December 23, 2019.

About a hundred guests from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Diplomatic Corps, the Filipino community, and Syrian businessmen in Damascus attended the event.

In his opening remarks, Charge de affaires e.p. Alex V. Lamadrid emphasized that the event was organized to promote and to introduce Philippine cuisine to Syria. He also acknowledged the Hanabi Restaurant Filipino Chef Reymund de Leon who prepared the sumptuous food.

The Filipino cuisine was highlighted during the food festival. It includes the salmon fillet in sinigang sa miso, lumpiang shanghai, pancit bihon, beef caldereta, chicken adobo, beef karekare and chicken embutido and desserts such as ginataang bilobilo, leche flan, and biko —  in which the foreign and Filipino guests expressed their appreciation for the foods’ unique and delicious taste.

During the festival, the Embassy also distributed tourism brochures and encouraged the guests to visit the Philippines.
