MANILA, March 10 — EducationUSA, the U.S. government’s official resource for students interested in pursuing higher education opportunities in the United States, welcomed 43 accredited university and college representatives from the United States to its annual university fairs in Cebu and Manila on February 28 and March 1. Nearly 800 students, parents, and educators joined EducationUSA’s fair at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu and more than 1,800 attended the Manila fair at the Shangri-La Hotel in Taguig, record attendance in each location.

US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim toured the fair in Manila to meet students interested in US study.  He thanked university representatives for increasing Filipino awareness of the benefits of international education and exchange in the United States.

US Embassy Cultural Attaché Matthew Keener, who leads the EducationUSA program in the Philippines, noted, “In addition to the unprecedented turnout, the attendees seemed genuinely motivated to study in the United States and understood how valuable a US education would be to their future.”

The annual EducationUSA fairs are free and open to the public.  The fairs provide an opportunity for Filipino students to meet university representatives, learn about the US college application process, take virtual reality tours of US university campuses, and interact with university alumni ambassadors, EducationUSA advisors, and US Embassy consular officers.

This year’s combined fair attendance of more than 2,600 marked nearly a 25% increase over last year’s attendance of 2,100.

EducationUSA provides free advising services to prospective international students in more than 170 countries and offers students resources and tools to help navigate the five steps to US study: researching schools, financing, completing the application, obtaining a student visa, and preparing for departure. An EducationUSA adviser can help students narrow their options, define their priorities, and plan their college careers. EducationUSA does not offer scholarships, but can assist students in identifying scholarship and financial assistance opportunities.

Nearly 3,400 Filipinos currently study in the United States.
