The Department of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the City Government of Davao, through the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), and the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines – Mindanao Chapter, brought together a distinguished panel of speakers representing the Philippine and US government and private sectors in a webinar dubbed “Invest in Davao: Online Roadshow to USA” on 05 April 2022.
The webinar provided the participants a comprehensive overview of doing business in Davao City and its favorable investment climate for agribusiness, light manufacturing, tourism, and technology, including IT-BPM.
Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Heather C. Variava and DFA Undersecretary for Multilateral and International Economic Relations Lourdes O. Yparraguirre delivered messages during the said webinar.
The speakers highlighted Davao as a highly urbanized city which provides a secure, productive and cost-efficient location for businesses to operate. Ranked as the safest city in the country and boasting of major improvements in key infrastructure that ensure greater accessibility, not to mention its pool of young, talented people which is its greatest asset, the resounding message of the panelists, in the words of George Drysdale, Chairman and CEO of the Marsman Drysdale Group, was for American investors to come to Davao “now na”!
A panel discussion with DTI – Undersecretary for Industry Development and Trade Policy Ceferino S. Rodolfo, AmCham Mindanao President and Sagrex Corporation President & CEO Ferdinand Marañon, Chairman and CEO of the Marsman Drysdale Group George Drysdale, and SGV & Co. Representatives, moderated by DFA – Assistant Secretary for American Affairs José Victor V. Chan-Gonzaga, provided the participants an overview of the impact of recently passed game-changing economic legislation on the Davao business environment. Opportunities and challenges confronting businesses as they advance their post-pandemic recovery efforts, as well as the available support for navigating the bureaucracy and local business environment were also presented.
