ASEAN Committee in Cairo Visits the Suez Canal Economic Zone

Cairo – Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado joined the ASEAN Committee in Cairo (ACC) Heads of Missions as the group called on Suez Canal Authority Chairman and Managing Director Admiral Mohab Mameesh and the Suez Canal Economic Zone on March 31, 2019 at the Suez Canal in Egypt.

The ACC were brief by Admiral Mameesh on the historic importance of Suez Canal, the volume of world trade that passes through it, and the latest expansion called the “New Suez Canal,” which is the first mega-project of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.

The Suez Canal is approximately 128 kilometers north of Cairo, where its strategic location provides a shorter and secure passage for passenger and commercial shipping from the Indian to Mediterranean and European waters.

Other ACC members include Ambassador of Brunei Pengiran Mustapa Aliuddin, Ambassador of Cambodia Khuon Phon Rattanak, Ambassador of Indonesia Helmy Fauzy, Ambassador of Malaysia Mohd Haniff Abd Rahman, Ambassador of Myanmar Myint Lwin, Ambassador of Singapore Premjith Sadasivan, Ambassador of Thailand Chainarong Keratiyutwong, and Ambassador of Vietnam Tran Thanh Cong.
