Filipino teachers, university students, and business professionals trooped to the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen on 15 May 2021 to attend a Forum on Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan organized by the Philippine Consulate General in cooperation with the Philippine Trade and Investment Centers in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.

Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana provided the inspirational message and while commending the Filipinos for their perseverance in these times of adversities, also encouraged them to never lose hope.  He said that the Forum is “a great opportunity to learn ways to improve (themselves) and (their) families through entrepreneurship and other livelihood pursuits”.

BDO Unibank Inc. Vice President Ms. Patricia Lei S. Alvarillo shared her insights through a video-taped Presentation about Financial Literary (Savings and Investments) called Pandagdag Puhunan; Para Handa sa Sakuna; Para Handa sa Pagtanda; and Para sa Inyong Pamilya.

She encouraged attendees of the Forum to not just keep their money in the bank as savings but to invest, either in equities or stock markets, for higher potential returns.

Special Trade Representative (STR) John Paul Iñigo presented information about Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan (TNK), an initiative of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Trade and Industry and other sectors of our society to generate more jobs through entrepreneurship.  STR Iñigo encouraged the attendees to seek guidance from private sector partners through a Mentor ME (micro entrepreneurs) program of the DTI and the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE) to help the country’s micro and small enterprises (MSEs).

The attendees expressed appreciation for the Forum and said they look forward to similar activities by the Consulate General in the future.
