Performing arts and business converge as DTI-CITEM and CCP aim to lift the PH creative industry to new heights
The Philippine creative industry sector takes on a new path as business and the arts join to showcase the best of Filipino creativity in the first Manila International Performing Arts Market (MIPAM) and CREATE Philippines 2019.
Dubbed as MIPAM x CREATE PH, the event brings together the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, the export promotion arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-CITEM) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) for a unique partnership. MIPAM x CREATE PH will be held on September 19 to 21, 2019, in various venues inside the CCP Complex.
What’s in store at MIPAM x CREATE PH
The performing arts sector is at the heart of MIPAM x CREATE PH. In giving the spotlight to this vibrant, talent-filled sector, CITEM and CCP hope to raise the consciousness of performing arts groups, artists and creatives as contributors and drivers of the country’s trade and economic growth.
MIPAM x CREATE PH will be composed of exhibits, networking events, business-matching opportunities and showcases to exhibitors and guests visiting the CCP Complex. It will also serve as a platform for continued learning for artists and creatives through three seminars that will build their capacities for marketing and business.
Atty. BJ Palattao returns to CITEM and CCP’s Business of Performing Arts Seminar series with a talk on “Capitalizing on Your Ideas and Leveraging on Intellectual Property” to be held on September 19, 1:00 PM, at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde. The focus of this seminar is to equip participants with knowledge of the intellectual property law and how to use it to protect their creative and business ideas. Palattao, a managing partner at the Palattao and Associates Law Office, specializes in arts and entertainment law.
Day Two will be about teaching groups and individuals on how to start their own companies and sell their works. The first seminar will be “The Journey of Starting A Professional Practice, Organization or Start-up Company” to be held on September 20 at 2:30 PM also at the Tanghalan Manuel Conde. Speaking at this seminar will be Jake Allan de Guzman, founder and CEO of Tripleshot Media. He has helped start successful news magazines, radio drama productions, and magazine shows for television. With this seminar, de Guzman hopes to impart strategies and ideas that will help aspiring artists and creatives understand what it takes to get their performing arts business up and running.
The next seminar topic is “Packaging Yourself and Effectively Pitching Your Ideas” by AJ Dimarucot, director of the Communication Design Association of the Philippines. A graphic designer and creative entrepreneur, Dimarucot will mentor participants on how to create a brand identity for themselves or their groups that will make them stand out and help them win businesses for their creations. His seminar will be held at 4:00 PM at the same venue.

Making business work for the performing arts
Exhibitors and visitors can take their craft to the next level by becoming duly-registered businesses at MIPAM x CREATE PH. The Business Access Corner is a special setting at the event that will help make it easy to register with the DTI’s NCR Regional Office as well as how to secure their copyrights or trademarks with the Intellectual Property Office Philippines. Another DTI agency, the Philippine Trade Training Center, can help with setting up training programs and services. These agencies will be open for assistance and consultations throughout the event days.
