Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation Carlos Sorreta met with incoming Russian Federation Ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov on 20 October 2020 at the Chancery.
The two Ambassadors discussed possible cooperation activities including the updating and signing of important agreements, future high-level visits, status of possible deployment of Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines, defense and security cooperation, and possible projects between local government units of both countries.
Ambassador Sorreta congratulated outgoing Ambassador Igor Khovaev, for having been awarded the Order of Sikatuna by President Rodrigo Duterte. The Order of Sikatuna is one of the three senior honors of the Republic of the Philippines and the order of diplomatic merit was conferred to Ambassador Khovaev for having rendered conspicuous service in fostering, developing, and strengthening relations between the Russian Federation and the Philippines.
The Philippine Ambassador likewise expressed hope that incoming Ambassador Marat Pavlov will continue to build on this momentum and will help achieve more milestones in building a stronger and more robust Philippine-Russian Federation relations.
Ambassador Sorreta presented to Ambassador Pavlov a book published in 2016 to commemorate the 40thAnniversary of Philippine-Russian Federation Diplomatic Relations, while the latter gave the former a token as an advance Christmas gift, noting that Filipinos start celebrating Christmas in September.
Ambassador Sorreta was joined by Deputy Chief of Mission Robert Ferrer, and Third Secretaries and Vice Consuls Catherine Alpay, Mary Grace Perpetua, and Anna Marie Mae Guerra. Ambassador Pavlov was accompanied by incoming Deputy Chief of Mission Vladen Epifanov and incoming Attaché Nina Prakapovich.
