Milan, Italy — Two Filipino coffee companies were recognized during the awarding ceremony of the 5th International Contest of Coffees Roasted in their Countries held on 21 October 2019 in Milan, Italy.

SGD Bodega Coffee, also referred to as Sagada Coffee, won the Bronze Award, while from Bukidnon received the Gourmet Award.

The Consulate General in Milan, represented by Acting Head of Post Mersole J. Mellejor, received the awards at the competition organized by the Paris-based Agences Pour La Valorisation Des Produits Agricoles or AVPA (Agency for the Valorization of Agricultural Products).

The awarding ceremony was held at the 41st International Hospitality Exhibition (Equipment, Coffee and Food) at Rho Fiera in Milan, Italy. The awards were handed by AVPA President Philippe Juglar.

The annual contest serves as a platform for native coffee producers to be recognized at the international level. The winners are chosen by a jury composed of professionals in the coffee industry (producers, roasters, and distributors), chefs, gourmands, and discerning consumers.

This is not the first time that the country won an award from the competition. The Philippines also received a Gourmet Award during the 3rd edition of the contest in 2017.
