Brussels — The Philippine Embassy in Brussels hosted a dégustation of Filipino Liquors on 24 March 2019. A group of more than 30 European guests from different hotels, restaurants, and other institutions in Belgium sampled six different wines and spirits, such as Tuba, Bugnay, Tapuey, Mango Liqueur, Zabana XO, and Don Papa Rum.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador to Belgium Eduardo José A. de Vega mentioned that “the drinks that we will share tonight have a variety of backgrounds. Some are quite traditional, while others evoke newer tales using local ingredients. The traditions behind each beverage are equally diverse.”
Filipino brewer Evan J. Yap gave a talk describing the history behind each drink to the audience as they were served. Filipino-Belgian chef Glen Ramaekers, brand ambassador for Don Papa Rum in Belgium, also gave an introduction to the drink.
“All of the beverages were well-received, with some restaurants pledging to include them in their upcoming menus. We hope to keep promoting the flavors of the Philippines in Belgium,” said Ambassador de Vega after the event.
