KUALA LUMPUR 11 December 2018 – Nearly 1,400 Filipinos in Malaysia flocked to the “Pamaskong Kat-OWWA-an 2018”, filling the Komplex Kraft (Craft Complex) in Kuala Lumpur to the brim, in an afternoon of entertainment, education, and Christmas cheer on 02 December 2018.
The event, which was organized by the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur together with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and in partnership with the Federation of Filipino Associations in Malaysia (FFAM), fused the Embassy’s annual Pamaskong Handog celebration with OWWA’s Kat-OWWA-an OFW Caravan to produce a Christmas concert and an education campaign for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) rolled into one.
The “Pamaskong Kat-OWWA-on 2018” provided the first opportunity for the OWWA OFW Caravan to reach an overseas audience. Prior to this, the OFW caravan was limited to various locations within the Philippines.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose encouraged all Filipinos to enjoy the free entertainment and raffle prizes while learning from OWWA’s sessions. “Hindi lahat sa atin ay makakauwi ng Pilipinas para makapag-Pasko doon, kaya sinikap naming dalhin ang Paskong Pilipino dito sa Malaysia,” Ambassador Jose said.
The “Pamaskong Kat-OWWA-an” featured local Filipino bands and performances from Filipino Community organizations, as well as a mini-concert from the Embassy Chorale led by Madame Maria Victoria H. Jose.
Meanwhile, OWWA Deputy Administrator Arnell Ignacio and Filipino celebrity Donita Nose interspersed the education segments with song numbers and stand-up comedy sequences for an entertaining take on learning.
