Xiamen — Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores attended as a VIP guest at the opening ceremony of the 5th China (Quanzhou) Maritime Silk Road International Brand Expo, the 22nd Straits Textile Clothing Fair and the 2019 Shishi Fashion Week on April 18, 2019 in Shishi City, Fujian.
Iloilo City Mayor Atty. Jose S. Espinosa, III led a delegation of city officials, private sector/organizations as well as local entrepreneurs who participated in the Expo promoting its local products.
The delegation’s visit is under the auspices of Quanzhou City, which is keenly pursuing plans to establish its sister-city partnership with their Philippine counterpart. It was the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen’s initiative to match Iloilo City with Quanzhou City way back in 2017, to strengthen the linkages of friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian province.
A fashion show on Iloilo’s casual wear and gowns showcased the world-class skills and craftsmanship of its hablon weavers, fashion designers and its city as a major center of the local textile industry in the Philippines. Hablon is from the word habol, a local term for hand-loom weaving, a very intricate and traditional method of fabric production.
Other Iloilo products include tablea, butterscotch, turmeric, ginger and other tea variants, hand woven textiles, linen as well as casual wear and gowns made of hablon.
The Expo was participated by various global brands in different industries such as garments/textile, food, wine/beverages, shoes among others. It opened windows of opportunities on the promotion of Philippine products to the vast Chinese market.
Other Philippine companies were Pasciolco Agri Ventures from Quezon, Bahag Hari Global Food Inc. and Japan-Philippines Malunggay Eco Farm Inc.
